The rising price of gas has stagnated the sales of many automakers, so the time wElectric Vehicle Chevy Voltas right to do something radically different, and just like that the Electric Car was to become a reality more than just a concept car. What is more shocking then anything is how quickly these vehicles may go from being sexy concept cars at the Auto shows to the actual working vehicle by 2010.
While it looked like General Motors would be first with its Chevrolet Volt that has been on the radar screen for over year now, it was actually Chrysler, LLC that produced three functional prototypes of these electric cars. Perhaps the time is right for Chrysler to take a lead in what should become a very competitive landscape in the near future.
We have a social responsibility to our consumers to deliver environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient, advanced electric vehicles, and our intention is to meet that responsibility quickly and more broadly than any other automobile manufacturer. The introduction of the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge electric vehicles provides a glimpse of the very near future, and demonstrates that we are serious and well along in the development of bringing electric vehicles to market. —Bob Nardelli, Chairman and CEO – Chrysler LLC
Chrysler will introduce the Electric Vehicle as either a Dodge Car, Jeep or the Chrysler van. All of these vehicles as well as the Chevy Volt boast that it will run for 40 miles without any gas. Considering the typical daily commute formany Americans each day is less than 40 miles and the idea of on running onelectric battery power is very attractive.
Unfortunately, the reality is that the average American may not get a chance at one of these exciting new vehicles until well after 2010 because the price tag to bring it to market that quick may just be too much. And many of the vehicle makers, in particular Chrysler, are having problems staying afloat in this weak economy.?
Maybe the $25 billion low cost government loan package or the new $700 billion financial bailout will help the automakers like Chrysler survive to launch these new vehicle. While it may not make up for the huge losses they are experiencing today. It may give them the Jolt of Electricity, they need to get off life support and back on their way to health.
